Today’s update is from Ava Schiau, a Medical Office major at Pensacola Christian College; and Crislyn Woods who just graduated. The team was at Synergy International Christian School in Barcelona, Spain, which is run by David and Lena Philbrick.
Ava’s Update:
Today we were at Synergy International Christian School. I was part of the nursing presentation for the primary kids. We were teaching about nutrition and how to balance your food groups properly. We taught multiple different grades, and despite the language barrier, they were very involved. They were very receptive to learning new English words and phrases. Overall, the experience is a 10/10! We all had a great time. 🙂
Crislyn’s update:
Today I had the opportunity of presenting at Synergy alongside three of my previous classmates. Each of us talked about a different STEM topic. I personally presented on the topic of psychology addressing a mixture of both textbook psychology and psychopathologies specifically from a Christian viewpoint. In addition, I talked about how the Bible can be a guide through science for Christians. After my presentation I spoke to one of the directors at the school who told me the school plans on starting a psychology course from a Christian perspective next year. I was able to refer a Christian psychology book to her and even give her my email to be a part of helping create their new class. I loved being able to use the resources and knowledge God provided me with from classes that I took at PCC. After our presentations, we sat and answered any of the Synergy students’ questions. I really enjoyed being able to share how the Lord directed me into the field of science and medicine. At the end of the day, I hope that I was an encouragement to the students to serve the Lord in whatever way they are being called to whether it be mission work, teaching, or science.
Service Opportunities:
In addition to the teaching presentations, each member of the team served at the school in different capacities. Phillip and Caleb assisted with preparing the tent for graduation. Mallory went around assisting with various maintenance needs. Many helped to blow up balloons which will decorate that tent. The team did a great job of jumping in wherever they were needed.
Bible Club:
After school let out, we participated in an after-school club. We found out after the club started that the directors had planned for us to present the entire two hours, but had never communicated that fact to us. After a quick huddle, the team jumped into action and presented an excellent presentation on growing in Christ. They gave testimonies, taught songs and a Bible verse, and presented a Bible story.
Tomorrow:
Tomorrow, the team will do some local sightseeing and will be involved in the Wednesday evening prayer meeting of a local church here in Olot.
